Odd Word Out Activity

Find the Odd Word Out in Each Group of Four

Short Description:

Test your understanding of synonyms in this exercise. Why is a particular word is the odd word out?

Reading left to right, in each row, there are four words. Three of them mean roughly the same thing and the fourth is a bit different. Write the odd word in the column on the right.

For more mental exercises visit our word games page.

Directions for Caregivers:

Do it together and discuss the reasons for choosing the odd words.

If possible aim to involve participants of equal cognitive ability in order to give everyone a chance to take part, not just the fast thinkers. You could give everyone in the group a worksheet each and compare answers when they are finished. Discuss the reasons behind the choices.

“What does the odd word mean?”

“Why is it different from the rest?”

Early and middle-stage memory care/dementia.

Maybe use three of the word instead of four if you would like to simplify further.
