As a small group activity, watch the video together or show the group a finished example of the craft before you start. Make sure all the participants are able to handle small components.

This activity is best suited to early-stage dementia. Watch the video first. Bear in mind that the sequins and pins are small, and the participants need to be able to handle them. Offer assistance as needed.

About this Activity

You need a certain dexterity in the hands and fingers for this craft. Using buttons instead of the sequin makes an easier task. This is a very therapeutic activity to make, with lots of repeated movements, and these pretty baubles can be left hanging up all year round.

For sequin and bead ornament. Push a pin through the small bead and then through the hole in the sequin. Push this into the polystyrene ball. Keep adding more and more until the ball is covered.

Button method: place the button on the polystyrene egg and secure it with a couple of pins pushed in through the holes. Use buttons with small holes to make sure that the pins don't go straight through the holes.

If you don't like the white of the polystyrene egg shining through the finished ornament, you can paint the ball and let it dry before you start.

Add a ribbon loop and secure with pins or stick in a readymade wire loop for hanging your finished Christmas baubles.
