Make your own jigsaw

This painting project can be used equally well with a group and an individual, as a piece of artwork or used as a jig-saw. Maria will show you an example and no matter how many times you do this, every picture will be different. You can make it as intricate or simple as you wish. The finished picture can also be used as a jig-saw, cut into as many pieces the user can manage.

Supply list:

  • Card paper
  • Pencil, ruler, and marker
  • Scissors
  • Paints and brush

How you might use this activity with:

Individuals (independent persons), make as described above and in the video.

Or

Along with a caregiver / activity director for the following:

One-on-one activity, make as described above and in the video.

Group activity, make as described above and in the video. Give each participant a part of the picture to paint.

Early stage memory care / dementia, make as described above and in the video. Explain the activity and supply paints and paper. You may need to help with the drawing.

Middle stage memory care / dementia, As above. Explain the activity and supply paints and paper. You may need to help with the drawing. You may also need to give more assistance as regards the choice of colors or how to clean brushes etc.

Late stage memory care / dementia, if the person is able to take part, give as much assistance as is needed. you may need to do the drawing and use hand-over-hand with the painting. This is a nice activity for a passive observer also, either by watching the video or watching the activity.

This activity is suitable for both men and women.
