dance

From the time I was a little girl, I have always wanted to live in a musical where I could break out in song or dance in response to any situation or event.

Sadly, life is not a musical but that doesn’t stop the music score in my head or my bee-bopping around town. I find dance to be a great way to relieve stress, have fun, make myself laugh, and just be silly in an often serious day.

I have passed this love of dance on to my son.

He recently went to a hockey game with some family members and would dance every time a goal was made. His aunt commented that, “he must dance a lot at home with his mom.” He does! We have a smoothie dance, a happy dance, and a let’s rock out dance. Each time we are dancing, we end up happier and smiling.

I grew up as a ballet dancer with aspirations of being a prima ballerina. I can remember waiting in the wings for my entrance into the fight scene as Clara in the Nutcracker. It was incredible to dance across the stage, under the lights, and enter into a magical world. Turns out I am not a prima ballerina but that hasn’t deterred the enjoyment of dance in my life. I just do the Macarena now instead of a Grand Jeté: my stage is my living room; my toddler and dog are my audience and biggest fans.

Bodies in motion stay in motion and it has been shown that dancing is good for your brain plus having your own personal dance party is a great way to lift your spirit and relieve stress.

I encourage you to tap your foot and get your groove on!
