Balloon Birthday Card

An Easy-to-make Card for Celebrations!

Supply List:

  • Blank greeting card (a folded sheet of card paper works)
  • Colored paper
  • Pen
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Ribbon (and a dab of glue to stick it)
  • Colored markers

Directions for Caregivers:

Make a card together or one each. See video for instructions. Make it a nice social occasion with lots of chat about birthdays and other celebrations.

Group activity.

The balloon birthday card is a fun activity to make around the table. Chat about who is going to get the cards, what age they are, etc.

Early-stage and middle-stage memory care/dementia.

Assist as needed with drawing and cutting of the balloons. If the person is not able to do these tasks, they can still choose which color balloon goes where and help design the card. Reminisce about occasions for celebration in their lives.

This activity may suit late-stage dementia/memory care persons as passive observers as part of a group activity.

About this Activity

Maria and Sheila Demonstrate How to Make a Balloon Birthday Card.

Hint: If you (or the person you are with) are writing a greeting on the finished card, sometimes it is better to write it on a separate piece of paper, cut it out and glue it in. This way, there is no chance of a wrong spelling or other mistake spoils the card.
