About this Activity

An Easy Paint Project Where You Really Can't Go Wrong.

Use a pencil and draw large squiggles and loops across a page, overlapping in a few places to create areas to paint.

Before you start painting, protect yourself and your table from paint spills.

Put some colors on a plate and include white.

Paint each area a different color and try mixing colors.

Adding white to any other color will make a lovely new lighter shade.

Clean the brushes between color changes and tap them on the absorbent paper if they are too wet. If the paint is quite thick, a little water mixed in makes it easier to apply.

For Caregivers:

In a senior care setting, sometimes some residents say, "I'm not going; I can't paint/draw when there is an art activity happening." This project is excellent as it is abstract; there is no wrong way to do it. You just have to make a 'squiggle' on the paper to create different fields to fill in with paint.

If a participant is reluctant to draw, you can do hand-over-hand if they'd like and help them with it. If you don't have enough shapes or spaces after the initial drawing, just draw some curved lines from edge to edge to make more.

A participant may find it hard to see pencil lines, use a marker. It is nice if everyone makes their own, but there is a template supplied that you can copy if they prefer this. As an activity for dementia it usually works very well.

If you like, use our printable template and color in the page with your favorite colors.
