What Makes you Happy?

Think About It!

About this Activity

Do You Know What Makes You Happy?

Sometimes life seems to move forward relentlessly, and we don’t take the time to stop and reflect on our different feelings and emotions in different situations.

What makes you happy? Do you ever stop to think about it? Could you make a list of 10 things that make you smile, laugh or feel really good? Can you make more opportunities for these things in your life?

That’s a lot of questions, but I really think that we tend to move through life without enough appreciation of the things that make us tick and feel good.

I set myself this challenge today and tried to think outside the box and really see what makes me tick. I will share just a few things of what I came up with. Even making this list made me smile, so that was my little bit of positivity for today.

  • People I love. Family is precious, and good friends are to be treasured.

  • Dogs. I always seemed to have a good affinity with dogs, and they give me a feeling of warmth and happiness.

  • Colors. I feel happy when surrounded by lovely strong colors, like sunrises, autumn leaves, patchwork quilts, colorful clothes, glorious paints, etc.

  • Texture. I am not a great shopper for clothes, but I absolutely can’t resist touching and feeling anything soft and fluffy when I go into a clothes shop. My hands take on a life of their own.

  • Music. Particularly music from long ago that evokes memories. Be it the jazz or big-band music that my Dad loved to the music of the 1970s when I had my first experiences of popular music, country, and light classical.

  • Learning something new. Taking on a challenge is great!

  • Seeing other people’s accomplishments. There are many stories and videos about people beating the odds, achieving personal goals, and successes for themselves and others. These stories are often very emotional. Most of us get a good feeling from seeing another person’s achievements and successes, particularly if they come from a background where they had to overcome obstacles to reach their goals. I love a trier and believe that we are all abler than we think we are at times.

  • Traveling and seeing new places.

  • Reading. Particularly mysteries and “Who done it” books.

  • Taking photographs of the birds in my garden.

There are lots more, but I’ll be mindful of your time!

What would be on your list of things that makes you happy? If you would like to share, I would love to hear.
