Rhyming Poems #1

Let the imagination flow.

Short Description:

The word poetry can be daunting. We might think of long poems that we had to learn and read at school.

Print the worksheet and follow the instructions to create your two-line rhyming poems.

Let the imagination flow, and don’t be afraid to make it funny or peculiar. There is no right or wrong way to do this; make it your own.

Directions for Caregivers:

This is a fun activity to do together. Find lots of rhyming words and discuss the poetry lines.

Ask leading questions to encourage ideas.

Creating rhyming poems can be a fun whiteboard activity for groups.

Collaborate to find the rhyming words and maybe your poems will be much longer than just two lines!

Early-stage and middle-stage dementia.

Writing a rhyming poem may work best for a small group or one-on-one. Give as much assistance as required and allow participant(s) time to think about the different elements.

If you don’t get any suggestions for the lines, make up your own lines and involve the participant(s) by asking if they like your ideas.
