Coloring – Flowers in a Vase

Supply List:

  • Printed image
  • Brush
  • Paints (or coloring pens/markers)
  • Water for cleaning brushes

Directions for Caregivers:

Join in and have fun together. Explain how to use/mix paints for new shades.

If you don’t have paints, coloring pencils, crayons or markers are just as good.

Paint or color the flowers. Discuss favorite flowers and colors.

Does anyone in the group have a story relating to some flowers?

Early-stage memory care/dementia.

Supply materials, explain how to use/mix paints. Join in and have fun together.

Middle-stage memory care/dementia.

As above, offer more support if needed. If a person is reluctant to take part, leaving a brush and page in front of them can often lead to the person picking it up and engaging after watching others paint.

Use hand-over-hand assistance if needed. Art sessions are good activities to join in with as a passive observer if the person is not able to participate actively.

About this Activity

Hint: Don’t forget to paint the background.

It will really lift the look of the finished picture.
