When Did You Take Time Out Just for Yourself?
I came across a poem the other day, which I think profoundly sums up the importance of taking a little bit of time out every day just for you. If you have a garden or a park nearby, go outside on a good day, or sit beside a window. Look out for a minute, then close your eyes, listen to the birds singing or put on your favorite song, spend a few minutes not thinking of all the things you have to do, and relax both body and mind. We often think that taking a rest when there is so much to be done is equivalent to laziness. This really isn’t the case.
The words of this simple short poem by J Lubbock really sum up the value of a little bit of Time Out.
Rest is not idleness,
and to lie sometimes on the grass
under trees on a summer’s day,
listening to the murmur of the water,
or watching the clouds float across the sky
is by no means a waste of time.
Why not see if you can find a little bit of space in your life for you this week?
