Did You Ever Hear of an ‘Acrostic Poem’?
In an acrostic poem, each letter of a word, in this case, the word WINTER, is the starting letter for a new word or phrase related to the original one. This is a great exercise in creative writing.
For example, if I use the word SUN, I can make a poem that looks like this:
Shine bright
Up in the sky
Nice and warm
Print the poetry page, write a word or short sentence after each letter in WINTER. The words you write should all relate to wintertime.
Then read it from top to bottom, and you have written a poem.
For Caregivers
Print the poems and give to individuals to make by themselves, or join them one-on-one.
For a group, either use a whiteboard and make a collaborative poem or ask each group member to make their own.Â
The poems can be shared by reading them out aloud and will look great displayed in your community.
