While attending a course recently there was discussion about effective communication and listening skills. The facilitator showed us this you tube clip and I think you will really enjoy it. I really don’t need to say any more, it speaks for itself!
On a more serious note, life is full of ups and downs and it is often hard to know the best way to communicate with others. The course focuses on art/creativity and older adults with an emphasis on dementia. Did you know that it can (on average) take a person with dementia up to seven times longer to process a piece of information or an instruction?
I think this is a very important piece of information.
How often do we feel impatient when someone thinks too long before responding?
Did you ever answer a question asked of another person because he or she took long to answer?
I think most of us are guilty of this, I have certainly done it myself. It is good to be reminded sometimes that time and the processing of information moves at different speeds for different people and that we are all entitled to an opinion. It is not up to us to speak for others when they are able to speak for themselves.
A little food for thought for this week.
Wishing you well,
